| | Stainless steel horn cups and screw shanks are available NOW!
Our concept offers you value, with a novel twist or two to make this an interesting option for professionals, teachers, and students. Our shanks are cup-specific. Each shank includes the lower portion of the cup to which it is associated as well as the bore (drill hole), backbore (internal taper), and the external taper (governs seating depth in receiver). The player now has three variables at their disposal to adapt the mouthpiece to their playing situation. So, varying resistance by changing bore sizes now is easy and you really can't ruin a cup by over-drilling. Since there is truly no "universal" horn receiver, adjusting the seating depth of the mouthpiece to optimize playing characteristics now becomes a practical and easy endeavor. No more wrapping your shank with paper or electrical tape! Our screw shanks allow the mouthpiece to be backed out of the receiver in 1 mm increments. Ultimately there will be a "sweet spot" where the depth provides an improved response and posilbly pitch- a perceived balance between slotting(stability) and resistance. If you back out too far, resistance increases and flexibility decreases, go too far in and resistance drops and slotting becomes less stable. Generally speaking, the best response is obtained when the tip of the mouthpiece is just inside the narrowest part of the receiver/leadpipe before the bore expands into the lead pipe. The cups come with the 3/4 x 36 Giardinelli style thread. Optionally, Lawson and PHC threads are available. Fr. Horn Rim Tech Sheet |
